| Dog & Cat Economic Recovery Project |
The aim of this project is to assist the dogs and cats in the Bucks County area that have been impacted by the recession. There are two components of this program:
- Working with several local veterinary practices to provide financial assistance with veterinary care for pets whose owners have lost their jobs or homes as a result of the recession, and
- Developing a referral network and hotline number for referral to other available services/organizations that may be helpful
Description of the Project:
Phase I: Assistance with routine veterinary care
Many families affected by the recession have delayed obtaining routine veterinary care for their dog or cat. These “well visits” are important to maintaining a pet’s health and welfare. It is not unusual, during one of these visits, for a condition to appear that can easily be treated if diagnosed early.
Indian Walk Veterinary Center has developed a well-visit protocol for this phase of the project. The cost of the well-visit is $120. Pet owners affected by the recession pay $20; the balance is paid by The Crossings Animal Sanctuary.
Phase II: Assistance with specialized and emergency veterinary care
For this phase of the project, funds are made available for pets referred by our participating veterinary practices for specialized and emergency veterinary care.
Phase III: Creation of an “Animal Help Line”
This service will offer resource information to assist pet owners and provide referrals to other available services and organizations. Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, the largest no-kill animal sanctuary in the U.S., has already given CAS training and assistance based on their national Animal Help Line.
