 2010 Hostages For Homeless Pets

The Crossings Animal Sanctuary sincerely thanks our 14 "hostages" who made "Hostages for Homeless Pets" such an overwhelming success! - - - A special thank you to chef-owner Brian Held and manager Jamie Petry of Restaurant Rouget in Newtown, who donated the venue and the fantastic breakfast.  "The best pancakes I ever ate!", exclaimed one hostage. (No, he was not under duress -- just very well fed!) . . .

CAS Takes 14 “Hostages”, Raises $10,000!

In the wee hours of Thursday morning, November 18, 2010, while most of Bucks County slept, a band of CAS “kidnappers” visited the homes and businesses of 14 area professionals, business owners/managers, and community leaders and took them “hostage”. Our 1st Annual “Hostages for Homeless Pets” fundraiser raised $10,000 for The Crossings Animal Sanctuary, including the “Dog & Cat Economic Recovery Project”, which provides veterinary care for pets in families that lost their jobs and/or their homes as a result of the recession.

The “hostages” were brought to Restaurant Rouget in Newtown, where they were held for “ransom”. Prior to being allowed to make their ransom call, they were fed a scrumptious buffet breakfast. (We treated our “hostages” very well—they were more cooperative that way.) The “captive audience” was then presented with information from a variety of speakers, including CAS President Yvonne Neiman; Patricia Liddie, Adoptions Coordinator; Cynthia Wahlig, Sanctuary Planning Coordinator; and Anne Grcyzon, Executive Director of Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary in Delaware, whose no-kill sanctuary for dogs and cats has just begun construction.

At 10:45 a.m., the “hostages” were permitted to use their cell phones to make one “ransom” call. The person responsible for paying the “ransom” was asked to come to Restaurant Rouget with the money. Once the “ransom” was paid, the “hostage” was released.

Our heartfelt thanks to the 14 “hostages” who graciously gave up their morning to participate in this fundraiser, and who raised $10,000 for The Crossings Animal Sanctuary.
